Press Statement
A massive fire has broken out in the city of Los Angeles, California, USA. It is the most affluent and famous city in America. It is reported that about 12,000 houses have been destroyed in the fire, a large number of people have died, and approximately 150,000 people have been forced to leave their homes. The damage to trees, plants, wildlife, and wild animals caused by the fire is incalculable.
The fire in Los Angeles is not only a serious problem for the city or for America, but also for the entire world. The fire occurred as a result of climate change and the increase in global temperatures. Climate change has led to an increase in fires, heavy rain, droughts, cyclones, snowfall, floods, and other extreme weather events worldwide. The snow in the Himalayas is melting, raising the risk of rising sea levels and the potential flooding of some coastal cities. The California fire is one of the consequences of such global climate change. At a time when the climate crisis is growing more serious worldwide, a person has been elected as president of the United States who believes that the climate crisis is not a problem at all.
The fires in the United States are not accidental. They are a natural result of the climate changes that are taking place. In this context, it is noteworthy that a NASA scientist, after studying the changes in the natural environment due to climate change, predicted the severe fire hazard in California and left San Francisco two years ago. His warning has turned out to be true. Due to climate change, temperatures are rising globally, and the likelihood of increasing fire incidents is not limited to the United States, but extends to the entire world. In this situation, it is crucial to take effective global action to address problems like fires or floods caused by climate change. Otherwise, it will surely pose a grave danger to all of humanity.
Trump is set to take office as president of the United States on January 20. Even before taking office, his statements have caused a stir around the world. He won the election with the primary slogan of “making America stronger,” which reflects his extreme fascist and imperialist ideology. As soon as he becomes president, he has announced that he will expel a large number of immigrants living in the United States.
Panama is an independent and sovereign country, yet he is talking about merging it with the United States to make it the 51st state. Greenland, the world’s largest island, is under the control of Denmark. He has been pressuring Denmark to sell it. The island, mostly covered in ice, has been found to contain a large amount of valuable minerals, which is why the United States seeks to control it. The island also holds strategic importance, further motivating his desire to occupy it. Thus, it is clear that, as soon as Trump becomes president, he will adopt an extreme fascist and imperialist policy under the guise of “making America great.”
Trump has announced that he will end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours of taking office. However, to prevent him from taking action, the current U.S. President, Biden, is systematically working to escalate that war. What will be the result of this conflict between Biden’s and Trump’s policies regarding the war in Ukraine? We may not have to wait long to find out. Similarly, the conflict between Russia and NATO is also escalating due to Biden’s policies. Especially after Britain recently began making century-old agreements with Ukraine, constantly escalating the war, a situation of war between Russia and NATO seems increasingly likely. Trump has also repeatedly stated that he wants to reduce U.S. involvement with NATO. What will be the impact of his policies on Europe? This has become a point of significant curiosity.
Although Trump has talked about immediately ending the war in Ukraine, he has also spoken of launching a full-scale attack on Iran. He has continually incited Israel to attack Iran. In this context, what will the situation in Central Asia and the Palestinian Liberation War be after Trump takes power? This has become a serious concern.
Recently, a three-phase peace agreement has been concluded between Hamas and Israel for a ceasefire. This peace agreement is a great victory for the Palestinians. Israel had previously claimed it would not stop the war until Hamas was entirely eliminated, and the U.S. had consistently vetoed all ceasefire proposals in the United Nations. In this context, the U.S. and Israel have now had to reach an agreement that treats Hamas as an equal. Therefore, this agreement is a victory for the Palestinian people.
It is extraordinary that the Palestinian people did not surrender even after such a massive attack and massacre by Israel in Gaza. We cannot overlook the fact that the Palestinian people have been fighting for the liberation of their homeland for seven and a half decades. It is clear that the current peace agreement will not stop their liberation movement. Equally surprising is the fact that, despite Israel’s complete destruction of Gaza, Israel and its intelligence agencies failed to locate the hostages. This speaks volumes about Hamas’s strategic acumen.
Now, a peace agreement has been reached, especially through the mediation of Qatar and Egypt. However, Israeli hardliners are raising their voices to prevent the agreement from succeeding. What will be the final outcome of this peace agreement? It is difficult to say for certain at this moment. Even after this agreement, Israel continues to bomb the Gaza Strip, and approximately 80 Palestinians have been killed as a result.
Following the agreement, a deal has been made between Hamas and Israel to gradually release the hostages and Palestinian prisoners, facilitating exchanges between the parties. However, no information has been received regarding the situation of Bipin Joshi from Nepal in relation to this agreement. Our party expresses serious concern over this and calls for his immediate release.
The U.S. frequently speaks about peace, democracy, and human rights. However, after Trump comes to power, it is more likely that fascism, imperialism, and war will only be strengthened through U.S. policies. In this context, the need to raise our voices against imperialism, fascism, and war globally is greater than ever before.
Regarding the political situation in our own country, it seems that a planned effort is underway to establish an autocratic and authoritarian rule. Oli has formerly opposed the parliamentary system, dissolving parliament twice and obstructing its restoration. Therefore, it is not difficult to foresee a serious threat to the parliamentary system under his leadership. Particularly now, as he governs through ordinances without calling parliament at the scheduled time, it is clear that he is leading the country toward dictatorship.
There is significant controversy in the country surrounding cooperation. Legal proceedings are ongoing in various courts concerning the embezzlement of cooperative funds. In this context, there is considerable debate about whether those accused should be detained for trial or released on bail. However, the more important issue is the question of returning the stolen money to the victims. Amid all the discussions and controversies, the issue of compensating the savers who were victims of cooperative fund embezzlement has been neglected. Our party emphasizes the urgent need to return the money to the victims in connection with the embezzlement cases. We also advocate for the confiscation of the assets of those who embezzled funds or used fraudulent accounting to buy and sell land, with the stolen money returned to the cooperative victims.
The issue of amending the constitution is currently being raised in the country. One of the main agreements in the formation of the current coalition government was centered on this issue, and now, since Oli has stated that the constitution will only be amended in 2030, there is a dispute between the ruling parties. “In any case, we have also been emphasizing the need for an amendment to the Constitution.” In particular, we have demanded an amendment to abolish federalism or its provincial structure and to include local bodies in the list of fundamental rights, along with empowering them with additional rights. Furthermore, our party has also called for greater representation of women and Dalits through the creation of separate constituencies.
Some parties in the country are raising demands such as abolishing the republic and secularism, restoring the monarchy and Hindu nation, introducing a directly elected presidential system, eliminating proportional elections in favor of only direct elections, or creating provinces based on ethnicity or reorganizing constituencies on the basis of population. Mainly Madishbadies organizations are putting forth such demands. Some leftist organizations are even calling for the total abolition of the Constitution or parliamentary system as a whole, including republic system too. Our party considers all such constitutional demands to be incorrect and opposes them.
