Since the beginning, we have maintained the opinion that the current elections were unnecessary and that the dissolution of Parliament and the announcement of new elections were part of a strategy of US imperialism to establish its puppet government in Nepal. The results of the election have also turned out in accordance with the US plan, and the election has now prepared the basis for the formation of its puppet government. This is a matter of great seriousness and concern for Nepal.

The US has a global strategy of manipulating the governments of various countries in order to fulfill its imperialist interests. In this context, the recent attacks by the US on Venezuela and Iran are notable. The US attacked Venezuela and kidnapped its President, Maduro, and Trump declared himself the acting president there. However, due to the heroic resistance of the Iranian people, its policy of regime change in Iran has not been successful. Nevertheless, the US is openly insisting on regime change there and is talking about increasing its attacks on Iran many times over to achieve that objective.

The US had adopted a policy of military aggression to change the regimes in Venezuela and Iran, but in Nepal it tried to achieve that objective through parliamentary means, or through elections, and has succeeded in doing so. Various political forces, intellectuals, and journalists are analyzing the results of the elections from different angles or giving their reactions. But no one has uttered a single word about the role of the US behind it. That is a very serious and worrying matter. This will continue to obscure the dominance of the US in Nepali politics and will have fatal consequences. It will also cause long-term damage to the country’s nationality, sovereignty, and peace.

The issue of corruption and misrule was widely raised during the Gen-Z Movement and later during the elections. It is a serious national problem in Nepal and has had a very damaging impact on national development and public life. It is certain that the country will not be able to develop until corruption and misrule are brought to an end.

There is no doubt that the old political parties, or the governments formed under their leadership, are responsible for such corruption or mismanagement. In addition, the administrative apparatus is also seriously responsible. However, the political leadership bears the primary responsibility, because if the political leadership had been correct, the corruption of the administrative apparatus could have been controlled.

During the Gen-Z movement and the elections, there was considerable discussion about the corrupt policies and activities of the old political parties, and that was justified. However, attempts were made to suppress the large-scale financial irregularities committed in the cooperative sector, as well as the court proceedings related to them, by politicizing the issue and portraying it as revenge or prejudice. Such misleading propaganda created great confusion among the people, and those accused of embezzling large sums from cooperatives were able to present themselves as winners in the elections.

As a result, the US easily paved the way for the formation of its puppet government in Nepal through elections, without resorting to military intervention as it did in Venezuela or Iran.

The situation that has now developed in the country is also largely the responsibility of the old political parties. Due to their corrupt and irresponsible policies and activities, widespread dissatisfaction and disappointment arose among the people. As a result, a broad populist public opinion emerged in the country. Based on this public sentiment, monarchists on the one hand began attempting to restore the monarchy, while on the other hand American imperialism found an opportunity to advance its objectives in Nepal.

Our party takes this situation very seriously. There is a need to analyze it carefully and determine future policies and programs. Our party will determine its future policy and program after evaluating the recently held elections and the situation that has arisen thereafter.

In this context, it must be mentioned that the main demands of the Gen-Z were the eradication of corruption and the lifting of the ban on social media. The ban on social media had already been lifted by the previous government. The remaining issue was the prevention of corruption. A party that had never been involved in corruption and had always maintained a spotless image could have been the most suitable option for this purpose. It was widely known that such a party was the National People’s Front (NPF).

If the eradication of corruption had truly been the main objective of the Gen-Z movement, the candidates of NPF should have won the elections. But not a single candidate won. From this, it is clear that the election was not guided by the objective of ending corruption and that its main objective was to serve imperialism. Since populist sentiment had more influence than clear political consciousness among the people, an undesirable result emerged from the election, and it is clear that it will have serious consequences for the country.

There is a need to seriously consider the situation that has arisen in the country after the elections. The most important task now is to replace the populist opinion that has taken root among the people with public awareness based on a correct and clear political perspective. For this purpose, our party wishes to draw the attention of the entire people.

The confusion surrounding the Gen-Z or the Gen-Z movement has also had a serious negative impact on the country’s politics. As in all countries of the world, the Gen-Z generation has made an important contribution in Nepal as well. In fact, Gen-Z’s are important pillars of society, and without them the development of any society cannot progress. They have always been at the forefront of struggles against the Rana regime, the Panchayat autocratic regime, the monarchy, and in the struggle to protect Nepal’s independence.

However, in Nepal, both the monarchists on the one hand and imperialist powers on the other have attempted to use them to achieve their objectives. The Gen-Z launched a peaceful movement for their rightful and just demands. But imperialist and reactionary political forces attempted to hijack the movement, give it a violent form, and use the Gen-Z for their own reactionary interests. This caused great damage to Nepal and prepared the basis for the formation of an American puppet government in the country.

The large-scale killings that took place during the Gen-Z movement on September 8 cannot be justified under any circumstances, and it is clear that the Oli government bears responsibility for them. On that day, young students were shot in the chest or head. This was a very serious and heinous crime.

At the same time, another aspect must also be considered. The Gen-Z had announced that their movement would remain peaceful, and when it began to take a violent turn, protesters were asked to withdraw. Nevertheless, protesters were incited to carry out violent acts such as attacking police barracks, forcibly entering the parliament building, and vandalizing it.

It is clear that the elements encouraging such violence were not genuine Gen-Z’s but individuals who wanted to achieve their own goals by turning them into martyrs. Gen-Z’s are young people up to the age of 28. Many people above that age, who can be considered non-Gen-Z’s or so-called Gen-Z, may have played a role in turning the movement violent.

Considering the September 8 massacre, we emphasize the need to investigate both the government’s firing and the coordinated attempts by certain elements to turn the peaceful movement violent, and to take necessary action against all those found guilty.

It can be reasonably assumed that the acts of vandalism, arson, and destruction that took place nationwide on September 9 were not committed by Gen-Z. Their movement program did not include such activities. These acts could only have been carried out by individuals who had long been preparing for such crimes or who had been specially trained. The Gen-Z had neither such preparation nor such training.

Moreover, these incidents occurred nationwide within a few hours, which could not have been the result of a spontaneous youth movement. Evidence already suggests that foreign intelligence agencies, reactionary forces within the country, anti-social elements, and so-called Gen-Z were responsible for these acts.

The government had formed a commission of inquiry to investigate the incidents of September 8 and 9, and it has already submitted its report to the Prime Minister. However, the report has not yet been made public. Only after it is released will it be possible to determine whether the investigation was conducted fairly and fearlessly.

Even then, the question remains whether the government will honestly implement the recommendations of the commission.

There is also a possibility that parties involved in the violent incidents may exert pressure to prevent action against them. Since the Oli government is no longer in power, it is unlikely to exert such pressure. However, since the new government is being formed under the leadership of the so-called Gen-Z, there is a strong possibility that they may attempt to prevent action against those responsible.

Whether the commission’s investigation or its recommendations were influenced by such pressure will only become clear once the report is made public and its recommendations are implemented.

Furthermore, it remains to be seen whether the responsibility for implementing the report will lie with the current interim government or the new government, and whether they will take impartial and just action regarding the events of September 8 and 9, or whether the report will simply be ignored as has often happened in the past.

Our position is clear: all those responsible for the September 8 massacre, for turning the peaceful movement violent, and for the sabotage and destruction on September 9 must face just action. Otherwise, a situation of lawlessness and impunity will arise in the country.

It would be incorrect to view the current political situation in Nepal purely from a national perspective. At present, American imperialism—especially after Trump was elected President—is creating turmoil across the world. There is no doubt that American imperialism has taken the form of open and blatant aggression by violating international law and even the UN Charter.

In such an international context, it is necessary to raise widespread awareness and build a movement against American imperialism in Nepal. For this purpose, we call upon all justice-loving and patriotic people to unite.

Mohan Bikram Singh

(General
