Press Statement

The violent form that the royalist demonstration took today on March 28, 2025, is strongly condemned by the NCP (Masal). There is no doubt that the aim of their movement through such activities is not only to establish a monarchy in the country but also to completely abolish democracy and establish an autocratic and fascist regime. Given the nature of their demonstration today, if the monarchy is restored in the country, the terror and oppression that would arise as a result are clear. A clear picture of that has been presented to us. In such a situation, the supporters of democracy, republicanism, and secularism must unite and join the struggle to completely defeat the attempt to restore the monarchy in the country. The NCP (Masal) emphasizes the need for the supporters of democracy, republicanism, and secularism to join the struggle against the danger of the restoration of the monarchy.

During today’s violent demonstration, royalists also vandalized the offices and residences of pro-republican forces. In this regard, our party strongly condemns the vandalism of the office of the Unified Socialist Party and the house of another leftist leader. Similarly, they have burned or vandalized the office of a prominent newspaper in Nepal. Several trade houses, the building of Nepal’s Herbal Product Pioneer, and the homes of many other civilians were also burned or destroyed. During the course of the burning of a house, a reporter was also killed.

Their actions have become so vile and anti-social that they have not hesitated to set fire to and vandalize health-related institutions. No matter how much we condemn their actions, it will never be enough. In fact, their actions are a manifestation of the monarchy that has been present in Nepal’s history for a long time.

We believe that the Nepali people will definitely not support such reactionary, anarchist, or terrorist activities, and the people will wage a strong struggle against it. The Nepali people, who have been struggling against absolute monarchy and various forms of regression for almost a century, will not allow the evil attempt to restore the monarchy to succeed under any circumstances.

The strong reactions that have already started coming from various groups of the people against their reactionary and anarchist activities leave no doubt that the Nepali people will strongly resist the restoration of the monarchy. The Newar community has already made it clear today that a Hindu nation and monarchy are not acceptable to them. We fully support their statements and express our deep belief that other communities of the country will also come forward in favor of republicanism and secularism.

It would be a grave mistake for them to forget the glorious history of the Nepali people’s struggle against monarchy, autocratic rule, and various forms of regression for nearly a century, emboldened by the violent protests by royalists today.

Our party has repeatedly taken the threat of regression seriously and has emphasized the need for a high level of awareness among the people and strong solidarity among the supporters of republicanism and secularism to resist it. There have been many historical achievements through such solidarity. However, it is unfortunate that this solidarity has been repeatedly disrupted in various ways. But today, our party emphasizes the need for all forces supporting republicanism and secularism to learn from the violent and fascist demonstrations shown by the royalists and to strengthen their solidarity, moving forward unitedly in the struggle against regression.

We are fully aware of the fact that not only have the problems of the people not been solved due to the current system in the country, but other misrule and corruption are also increasing. However, the solution to that is not regression, but progress. The solution to the country’s and the people’s problems will not be found by reverting to the monarchy, which has been proven wrong by history around the world. Instead, it will be found through a higher and more advanced democratic system. Therefore, we need to intensify the struggle for a higher and more advanced type of democracy and fight hard against all attempts to return to regression.

A few days ago, the king formed a joint action committee under a former leader who had worked during the direct rule of the king in Nepal. Before initiating the movement, the former king consulted with many royalist leaders about organizing pro-king demonstrations, which later took a violent form. The royalist leaders had openly called on the people to struggle violently. Therefore, it is obvious that the former king is directly involved in the movement. Needless to mention, such a movement on their part was driven by the objective of completely overthrowing the republican system and immediately reinstating the rule of the king. However, their plan did not succeed, and the royalist leaders had to flee, even abandoning the mass meeting arranged for the day.

In addition, we are concerned about the differences between the pro-republican forces on the issue of federalism. Federalism could lead the country towards destruction. Therefore, our party emphasizes the need to further advance the struggle against it. However, despite the differences between the pro-republican forces on the issue of federalism, the NCP (Masal) emphasizes the need for us to remain determined to continue the struggle against all efforts to lead the country towards regression and to establish unity in opposition to regression and in favor of republicanism and secularism on a solid foundation.
