Press Statement
Approximately sixty thousand people — including children, the elderly, women, pregnant women, and infants — have died so far in the Israeli attack on Gaza. Homes, schools, and universities have been destroyed on a large scale by Israeli bombings. There is also a severe shortage of food, leading to famine. Even relief supplies from outside are being blocked, and the Israeli government is bombing and killing people who have gathered to distribute or receive the limited aid available. Thus, the overall situation in Gaza is extremely grave, and the Nepali people must also pay close attention to it.
The entire world has drawn attention to the inhuman and barbaric atrocities being committed against the Palestinian people in Gaza. The governments of many countries have raised their voices against these acts. The United Nations has also voiced strong condemnation. However, the governments of the United States and a handful of countries that support Israel are fully backing the actions of the Israeli government against the Palestinian people.
Similarly, the Nepalese government has neither opposed the atrocities being committed by the Israeli government in Gaza nor condemned the attacks by the US and Israel on Iran. Instead, it has adopted a policy aligned with American imperialism. However, it is encouraging that the leftist forces of Nepal, civil society, independent intellectuals, and the general public are united in protesting the massacre being carried out by the fascist Israeli government in Gaza. They are standing in solidarity with the Palestinian liberation movement and condemning the attacks on Iran by Israel — a proxy of American imperialism.
We also strongly criticize the Nepalese government for failing to adopt a clear and principled policy on this issue.
The inhuman nature of the Israeli government has been further exposed. On July 26, the Israeli army hijacked a ship carrying food, medicine, and goods for children from Cyprus to Gaza in international waters, redirecting it to an Israeli port. On board were several parliamentarians and peacekeepers from Britain, the United States, Spain, Chile, Norway, Sweden, Ireland, Turkey, and other countries — as well as European citizens of Palestinian origin — who were subsequently arrested. Our party strongly condemns such inhumane actions by the Israeli government and emphasizes the urgent need for the immediate release of the arrested individuals.
A large number of Nepalis have been killed in the war in Ukraine after joining the Russian army. The NCP (Masal) has taken serious note of the repatriation of their bodies to Nepal. How many Nepalis have been killed in Ukraine? How many are in captivity? How many are still missing? Full details are not yet known. There is no agreement between Nepal and Russia regarding the recruitment of Nepalis into the Russian army, and all those who died were recruited illegally.
Given this, a serious question arises: Why did Russia — a country with traditionally friendly relations with Nepal — recruit Nepali citizens into its army in such an illegal manner? We demand that the Nepalese government raise this issue with urgency and seriousness.
The core issue is not only whether Nepalis were recruited legally or illegally into a foreign army. Our party has long been opposed to the recruitment of Nepalis into any foreign army in the world. We express deep sorrow and regret over the deaths of Nepali citizens in the Russian army. We also seriously question why the government failed to take any effective action to prevent the illegal recruitment of Nepali soldiers into the Russian military. We strongly object to this negligence.
Furthermore, to what extent is the compensation provided to the families of deceased Nepalis fair and adequate? We urge the government to seriously consider this matter and take necessary action.
